The island of Tobago, part of the leeward chain of the Caribbean Lesser Antilles, has coasts touched by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and the Bamboo Walk Hotel is located on the more natural, breezier Atlantic side of the Island.
Within a few minutes walking, you will come to one of the longest beaches on the island, lined with palms and totally natural, with no concrete structures or anything to ruin the view down or coastline or towards the vast horizon. A favourite to many who live on the island, often coming just to enjoy the peace, and watch the breaking surf role up the light gold sand. The long, breaking surf and on shore winds are ideal for kite surfing and it has become the local kite surfers’ after work Mecca, but there is never a crowd.
In fact, one of the charms of Tobago is that you can be the only person sitting on an entire white sand beach and here is where that can happen.
However, nothing is that far in Tobago and, being quite flat at the southern end, it is easy to cycle across to the Caribbean coast, or drive, and can be reached in 7-10 minutes. The Caribbean offers a different feel, the sea being calmer and immediately deeper and the sand whiter. There is a great row of beaches up the Mount Irvine side that are very accessible and would make a great day trip.
If you are a golf fanatic, we could not be more ideally placed, just walking distance from the stunning 18-hole Tobago Plantation golf course. This has some fantastic, challenging golf, played against a backdrop of stunning scenery, of open coastline and tropical vegetation. And there is a great clubhouse, serving the refreshments that enhance the game!
We are just a 10 minutes drive from the airport and all the restaurants and bars in the Crown Point area, as well as the famous heritage beach of Pigeon Point, which is down at that end of the island.
If you’re not doing taxis or hire cars, then a thumb up on the highway, a couple of minutes walk away, should get you a route car (has an H at the start of the number plate), and take you down to Crown Point or up to Scarborough for less than the price of a beer. It is very easy once you get the hang of it and most local people are friendly and willing to help.
The Crown Point area is worth visiting but you will enjoy the peace once you return to the Bamboo Walk and we do have great fine dining right here at the Surf ‘n’ Turf restaurant and a party every Friday night, well attended by people living on the island.
Bamboo Walk is also within walking distance of a multi-screen cinema complex, an added bonus if you really want it, and a huge shopping mall, where you can buy everything from a television to a t-shirt and try out some of the local food chains, like Kentucky, but Caribbean style! Sometimes a day of retail therapy in air conditioning can be quite relaxing after a few hard days in the sun.
But if it is the breath taking nature you came to see, Bamboo Hotel offers you Yes Tourism right on the premises and it can arrange all your sight seeing for you, even a day trip over to the carnival city of Port of Spain, Trinidad, if you wish to see the lively streets that people like Mick Jagger have danced along. And there’s always the cricket!
Yes Tourism can arrange for you to go around the whole island, hassle free, going up to Charlotteville, a fishing village quite cut off from the rest of the world, at the North end of the island, stopping off at Speyside, a great diving location, to have lobster at Gemma’s, a wooden dining structure that has become a landmark in Tobago!
They can arrange a day on a sailboat, cruising up the Caribbean coast, or a trip to see the famous Bucco Reef on a glass bottom boat, with a BBQ thrown in between the snorkeling. And with English, German and French at their disposition there really is not much Yes Tourism cannot do for you, providing local, on hand, up to date information.
